Gallery Bay and on to Eric Island

We departed Koolama Bay early in the morning, with a quick radio chat with a Greenpeace yacht that was sailing in as we left. Our plan was to stop at a spot called Gallery Bay along the way, where we would do a quick art explore before continuing on to Eric Island, where we planned to stay for a few days before heading to the Berkeley.

We arrived at Gallery Bay fairly quickly and after anchoring the boats we jumped in the dinghies and headed in for a quick explore. We were rewarded with some impressive art on both sides of the creek and spent a few hours taking it all in. It was hot and so we were seeking shade to enjoy a snack and drink before we worked our way back to the boats and onwards. A short visit but well worth the effort.

By mid-afternoon we had arrived at Eric Island and were soon at anchor and relaxing. However we weren’t alone, as well as a large boat from Wyndham there was a good size population of sandflies and midge – to the point that you couldn’t really sit out on the deck or cockpit in the afternoons/evenings. There was some cool exploring here though with a couple of creek systems and some really interesting sand dunes – something we hadn’t seen since south of Cape Leveque.

In the end we weren’t sad to leave the midge behind and we waved goodbye – would they be waiting for us at the Berkeley?
